Hospital Acquired Infection: Role of Hand Washing: SCSOAJ - Lupine Publishers

The  World  Health  Organization  (WHO)  has  declared  October 15 as Global Hand washing Day, with the aim of raising awareness on the importance of this art and to inculcate the tenet of its basic principles. In fostering this principle, the WHO introduced five critical moments of hand hygiene practice. These include washing hands   before   touching   a   patient,   before   performing   cleaning
procedures, after coming in contact with infectious materials such as body fluid (urine, feces, sputum), after touching a patient, and after  touching  a  patient  surroundings.  In  hospitals  often,  greater attention  is  placed  on  the  doctors  and  nurses  however,  other  supporting staffs such as the ward attendant, clinical assistant, and laboratory attendants play vital role to patient recovery [1]. Ward attendants  are  involved  in  hazardous  jobs  which  expose  them  to  the  risk  of  infection;  they  also  handle  patients  and  their  items;  hence, they may become vehicle for spread of nosocomial infection, so  knowledge  of  the  principles  of  hand  hygiene  and  handwashing  should be paramount in this category of health workers. Similarly, laboratory  attendants  are  exposed  to  infectious  biproducts; them  to health hazard [2].

The History of Opcab (Off Pump) Coronary Surgery: SCSOAJ - Lupine Publishers

After the advent of the heart-lung machine, few surgeons continued to use the OPCAB technique, Among those were Benetti and Buffolo from South America, who published in the early 1990s the first two large series on OPCAB surgery [1-3]. Several surgical approaches were tested, such as full sternotomy, no spreading sternotomy including left, anterolateral, Posterolateral and right anterolateral thoracotomies, as well as partial sternotomy [3]. The video-assisted techniques in the nineties allowed us, for the first time, to dissect the left internal thoracic artery (LITA) without opening the pleura cavity. The LITA was anastomosed to the left anterior descending (LAD) through a small left anterior thoracotomy and the MIDCAB operation was create [4-6].

Mini OPCAB Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery Plus Medical Treatment: An Option for High Risk Coronary Patients: SCSOAJ - Lupine Publishers

MINI OPCAB surgery (Xiphoid Approach) is a surgical technique in which the left internal mammary artery is bypassed to the Anterior Descending Artery (ADA) by a medial inferior sternotomy Fourteen high risk patients with multiple coronary disease with a preoperative logistic Euroscore of 10.86 were operated and follow up with medical treatment and strictly control of risks factors MACE at 80 months was 0% and Survival at 7 years 82% (KM) Although is an alternative the combination of Mini OPCAB operation plus medical treatment in high risk. Patients with multiple vessels coronary disease, more experience is needed to confirm this initials results. Statistical analysis applied the student test (SPSS program), with p<0.05 were considered significant

Mipo - A Biological Method for Fixation of Complex Fractures of Tibia: SCSOAJ - Lupine Publishers

Management of proximal and distal tibial fractures is challenging because of the complexity of injury, limited muscle coverage and poor vacularity. Surgical management of tibial fractures includes multiple options: external fixation, IM nailing, ORIF and minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO). Open reduction and internal fixation with a plate may end in wide dissection and tissue devascularization. Fixation of tibial fractures with MIPO allows protection of soft tissue and blood supply. This is a report of a series of prospectively studied closed proximal and distal tibial fractures treated with MIPO.

Is Alveolar Ridge can be Completely Preserved by Socket Shield Technique (SST)? A Case Series: SCSOAJ - Lupine Publishers

Born in Russia at the end of the XIXth century the Scientific Student Societies have developed a rather original way of initiation and involvement of the young in the scientific research during High School and University cursus. All through the XXth century and up to now, they have given several generations of Russian scientists an adequate pre formation consisting not only of skill acquisition in their future speciality but also in planning, realization and organization of scientific research and sharing of its results. Their popularity was also due to the high degree of initiative and autonomy left to the students.

Process for Preparation of Vitamin C and Method for Determination of Vitamin C in Tablets: (SCSOAJ) - Lupine Publishers

Process for Preparation of Vitamin C and Method for Determination of Vitamin C in Tablets by Krishnasarma pathy in Surgery & Case Studies: Open Access Journal (SCSOAJ) in Lupine Publishers

Procedure for calcium ascorbate (VITAMIN-C) includes such technological steps as reaction of ascorbic acid on calcium carbonate in water. In recent years, the determination of vitamin C has become an important subject in the field of biochemistry and commercial foods. This is because vitamin C plays an important role in maintaining human health. Due to the importance of vitamin C in human beings, the quantitative analysis of vitamin C has gained a significant increase in several areas of analytical chemistry such as pharmaceutical and food applications. There are numerous methods for the determination of vitamin C in a variety of natural samples, biological fluids and pharmaceutical formulations. The prepartaion method and methods for the determination of vitamin C are spectrophotometric methods and non-spectrophotometric methods (Arya and Mahajan, 1997). For non-spectrophotometric methods are such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), titration, enzymatic method and fluorometry (Arya, Mahajan and Jain, 2000). Direct spectrophotometry also has been applied to determine the vitamin C content in soft drinks, fruit juices, and cordials after correction for background absorption in the UV region.

Surgical Management of Multiple Nevus Lipomatosis Superficialis: A Case Report: (SCSOAJ) - Lupine Publishers

Surgical Management of Multiple Nevus Lipomatosis Superficialis: A Case Report by Ameen Barghi in Surgery & Case Studies: Open Access Journal (SCSOAJ) in Lupine Publishers

Nevus lipomatosis superficialis is a rare skin lesion characterized by the ectopic dermal deposition of adipose tissue. While benign, it typically presents in the second to third decade of life as regional discomfort. We present the case of multiple lesions requiring serial surgical management.
Presentation of Case: The patient was a 22-year-old male who presented with multiple, soft, warty lesions histologically consistent with nevus lipomatosis superficialis. He underwent excision of the largest mass and is undergoing multiple excisions for adjacent masses.
Discussion: Nevus lipomatosis superficialis is a rare connective tissue hamartoma of unclear etiology and multiple clinical subtypes. While management is typically surgical, efficacy of treatment options for multiple nearby lesions is not well characterized.
Conclusion: We review the literature for nevus lipomatosis superficialis and describe a case with multiple lesions of varying chronicity. Treatment must be chosen to optimize wound healing and cosmetic outcomes.

Mipo - A Biological Method for Fixation of Complex Fractures of Tibia: (SCSOAJ) - Lupine Publishers

Mipo - A Biological Method for Fixation of Complex Fractures of Tibia by Rohan Bhimani in Surgery & Case Studies: Open Access Journal (SCSOAJ) in Lupine Publishers

Introduction: Management of proximal and distal tibial fractures is challenging because of the complexity of injury, limited muscle coverage and poor vacularity.
Materials and Methods: A total of 20 patients with closed proximal or distal tibial or fractures were enrolled in the study between 2016 and 2017 and completed follow-up. Demographic characteristics, mechanism of injury, time required for union, range of motion and complications were recorded. Eleven patients had proximal tibial fractures and nine had distal tibial fractures. Patients were followed up to 2 and 6 weeks and then at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks until 12 months.
Results: Mean age of the patients was 39.5 years (range 18-65 years). Thirteen cases were the consequence of high-energy trauma and seven were the result of low-energy trauma. The clinical and radiological outcome were excellent in 13 patients, good in 6 patients and fair in 1 patient. The average time for fracture union was 16.4 weeks, ranging from 16 to 20 weeks. None of our patients developed any complications.
Conclusion: MIPO is a reliable method of management for tibial fractures; it provides a high union rate and good functional outcome with minimal soft tissue problems.
