Influence of Massage with Essential Oils to Human Energy: (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

Abstract

Context: Massage is the most common complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapy used in hospitals worldwide. As such, it is often the first CAM therapy to be integrated with conventional medicine. However, there are no standard approaches to evaluating the effect of massage to patients mostly taking into account the variety of massage types.

Objective: The aim of this study was to develop approach to evaluation the influence of massage with essential oils to the energy and psycho-physiological condition of people.

Design: 83 participants-volunteers took part in the experiments. All experiments were conducted in always the same rooms of the Saint-Petersburg SPA Center (Russia). Specially designed the whole body Energy massage with 7 different types of essential oils and massage without oils have been used. All participants were randomly assigned to 8 groups with 10-11 people in each group. For the evaluation process we have used questioners and Electro photonic Imaging technique (EPI, www.bio-well.com).

Results: Statistically significant changes in EPI parameters and emotional state after massage were found.

Conclusion: Massage has direct influence to the energy resources of the human body and this role of massage treatment is important for the use in CAM medical practice, sport and SPA applications. Effect of essential oils applications strongly depends on individual preferences, but when selected in accordance with human attention, may increase the influence of massage. Electro photonic technique (EPI/GDV) offers convenient, non-invasive, fast and reliable approach to follow up the energy effect of massage.

Novel Techniques for Improving Anti-Cancer Efficacy via Synergistic Phototherapy: (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

Novel Techniques for Improving Anti-Cancer Efficacy via Synergistic Phototherapy by Jui Teng Lin, Kuo Ti Chen, and Hsia Wei Liu in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Biosciences (OAJBEB) in Lupine Publishers

Factors influencing the cancer therapy efficiency in both photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) using nanogold particles and photosensitizers, respectively, are analyzed. In PTT, heat diffusion kinetics is used to calculate the temperature increase resulted from the nanogold absorption of light energy, whereas photochemical kinetics is used to find the efficacy of PDT, or the generation rate of reactive oxygen species. Efficacy of cancer therapy may be enhanced by combining PTT and PDT either activated by one light or two lights. For maximum PTT/PDT synergistic efficacy, the concentration of photosensitizers and nanogold required optimization, besides the wavelength of the light matching the absorption peak of PS and nanogold, and the sequential order of PTT and PDT process. External supply of either photosensitizers or oxygen concentration will significantly improve the anti-cancer efficacy via type-II PDT. Optimization is required for maximum synergic efficacy.

A Computational Simulation of Bladder Cancer Growth: (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

A Computational Simulation of Bladder Cancer Growth by Chia Jung Chan, Tin-Kan Hungand Chih-Han Chang in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Biosciences (OAJBEB) in Lupine Publishers

Abstract

A three-dimensional (3D) simulation is established for bladder cancer development. Distribution of cancer cells is obtained by using a Monte Carlo procedure. The tumor blocks are meshed with uniform hexahedral microelements. Each element is assessed on its cancer growth probability (CGPi) during a time interval. The CGPi value is related to the growth of tumors. In this study, the exponential growth of tumors is considered. Factors associated with the immune system, medication, and other cell conditions were not yet included. The 3D computational modeling is anticipated to develop patient-specific simulation towards clinical management.

Review on Multi-Field Application of Dielectric Resonator Antenna: (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

Review on Multi-Field Application of Dielectric Resonator Antenna by Abinaya Nallathambi and Rajesh Narayana Perumal in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Biosciences (OAJBEB) in Lupine Publishers

Abstract

The major aim of this paper is to collate the information on application oriented performance of DRA. Here we dominantly discussed on multi functional performance of antenna as a package material along as oscillator and filter and multi aspects of transparent DRA. A glimpse on On-Chip-DRA considering difficulty of the process to encourage the knowledge to overcome discrepancy. A note on Material and geometry influence in different application including RADAR, RFID is discussed. The advantage of small ground plane is discussed and markedly we produced details on Biomedical application of DRA that contrived a significant distinct compared with other Review articles of DRA.

Corrosion Resistance of Absorbable Mg-Ca Based Alloys in Physiological Environment: (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

Corrosion Resistance of Absorbable Mg-Ca Based Alloys in Physiological Environment by Daniel Jogaib Fernandes, Ana Caroline Crema de Almeida, Victor Brandao, Ariel Assayag, and Carlos Nelson Elias in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Biosciences (OAJBEB) in Lupine Publishers

Abstract

The objective of this work was to investigate the electrochemical behavior of Mg40Ca and Mg-Ca-Gd alloys for biomedical application as implantable absorbable devices. Electrochemical tests were performed under a physiological electrolyte of 0.9% NaCl, pH=7.4, 37°C, at a rate of 1, 0.1 and 0.01 V/s. Polarization curves showed similar mechanism of electrochemical behavior between alloys. The ternary Mg-Ca-Gd alloy showed lower values of current density and corrosion potential than Mg40Ca alloy.  The Mg40Ca based binary alloy showed higher values of corrosion susceptibility and lower polarization resistance than Mg-Ca-Gd alloy. Corrosion resistance improvements were achieved in ternary Mg based alloy with Gd and Ca content. The alloy with Gd and Ca content seemed adequate electrochemical resistance to attend biomedical demand.

A Comprehensive Study on EMG Feature Extraction and Classifiers: (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

A Comprehensive Study on EMG Feature Extraction and Classifiers by Christopher Spiewak, MD Rasedul Islam, Md Assad-Uz Zaman and Mohammad Habibur Rahman in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Biosciences (OAJBEB) in Lupine Publishers

Abstract
In the past few years the utilization of biological signals as a method of interface with a robotic device has become increasingly more prominent. With the many of these systems being based on EEG and EMG.EMG based control has five main parts data acquisition, signal conditioning, feature extraction, classification, and control. This paper seeks to briefly cover the aspects of data acquisition and signal conditioning. After which, various methods of feature extraction, and classification are discussed.
